Handmade using old fashioned methods
Our wax is melted in cauldrons over
heat like the ways of old. At the
appropriate temperature,
colour and fragrance oils are stirred in to create a blended fragrant
mix. With continuous hand stirring and monitored heat,
all ingredients meld into a homogenous porridge of utmost consistency.
The blended wax, removed from heat, is stirred occasionally and let to cool naturally in its
ambient surroundings for as long as
it takes to obtain the optimum pouring temperature. Once poured into
its mold or container, they are left to cool completely. Some wax is saved and set aside.
We're not done yet!
While many candlemakers skip this next step to save time, we reheat the set aside wax and add a top-up to
all our candles to guarantee a smooth even surface and a graceful elegant
looking candle top.
These methods ensures
top quality results
and a scent consistency that is the same from the top of the candle
to the very bottom of the candle.

Use soy wax
When we started making candles, we
started strictly with parrafin wax. Parrafin has the best scent throw. We still manufacture parrafin candles and now our
production of candles also offers candles made of natural soybean wax.
Soy wax is made from pure, 100%
natural soybeans grown in North America. This supports american farmers
instead of petrochemical companies. Soy wax burns cooler
and cleaner with less soot buildup than parrafin candles. Our
suppliers ensure us that the soybeans are free from pesticides, herbicides.
Soybean wax is safer for
the environment as it can be as much as 99.4% soot free and it releases no toxins. It is
water soluble meaning any soy wax can safely be washed with dish soap and warm water.

Parrafin & soy candles
We continue to make and offer parrafin wax candles
to our customers. We prefer to inform, offer choice and let the customer decide.
Our parrafin candles are made in the same old-fashioned methods that we use for making
soy candles.
What are the differences you ask?
The first difference between parrafin and soy can primarily been
witnessed in the scent throw. Parrafin candles excel in filling the air with
the fragrance oil scent throwing the scent further and more deeply than soy candles can.
The reason for this is quite simple.
Fragrance oils for candles have
been mainly developed for parrafin wax. This is primarily because
soy wax is relatively new in the candle making industry, less than
20 years while parrafin wax has been around for decades.

Carbon Footprint
Some soy candle makers are positioning themselves
as the green option with zero carbon footprint. This would be incorrect. Soybeans need to be processed and this
involves mechanical
processes to change the properties of natural soybeans into a wax. Seeding, growing, harvesting, transportation to
processing plants, transformation of
soy beans into wax all involve
mechanical processes that have a carbon footprint. Additional additives are typically added to soy wax as
well to heighten its candle burning properties. Soy candle wax is typically only 80% soy and the rest are other additives
and
stabilizers.
Parrafin wax is a by-product of the petroleum refinery process. It
too involves mechanical processes to
crystallize and transform the refinery by-product liquids into a candle makers' wax. The petroleum industry
does not drill oil for candle making wax; they drill for oil for the
oil and gas industry for the transportation industry. Candle wax and other waxes are usages of the refinery waste that is transformed into a usable
product.
Someday we may have an accurate carbon footprint of both but the point here is: both have a carbon footprint.
In the home, you can minimize carbon footprint by minimizing soot. The soot produced is minimal when the wick is
trimmed to 1/4" [.8cm] before lighting. An untrimmed wick
is the leading cause of soot.
Just want all my customers to know the facts and make their own decisions.

More differences
Another difference is the colour capabilities. Soy candles have softer colours, more like pastels.
Parrafin candles have more vibrant, sharp colours..
If you are looking to scent a
large room [20'x 20' or more] with only one candle then parrafin is
your better choice. We thoroughly enjoy the scent throw of parrafin
candles and that is a large part why we keep making them.
Soy candles do have sent throw, just not as far.
One soy candle can fill a room sized [12' x 12'] quite well which is most rooms
in today's homes and apartments.
It's your choice!
The industry is
offering more and more scents for soy wax and we regularly test new scents.
We will continue to evaluate our need for parrafin candles depending on
our customers' purchases and the advances made by the industry
in creating better scent throw with soy wax. Once soy wax performs as well as
parrafin, we will abandon production of parrafin candles.

Richly coloured
Cottage Country Candle candles
are coloured in vibrant colours. We use a variety of colours and attempt
to give each scent its own unique and colourful presentation.
Since we are doing these using
old-fashioned methods, no two batches will be exactly alike but our
record-keeping of colour blends helps us stay close to the desired
colours from batch to batch.
Want to use your organization's primary colour(s) for fundraisers?
Special request for wedding favours?
Corporate or event colour for gift giving?

Maximum scented
Triple scented
The scent. What's the point of a
scented candle if you risk burning your nose to get a smell or if you
need to read the label to know what scent its supposed to be? Our candles
emit a room-filling scent when burning. We use top-quality North American
made fragrance oils, no cheap simulated scents from the Orient.
Every one of our candles is made
of 89.5% wax, 0.01% colour and a whopping 10.49% fragrance oil. Most commercial
candles contain only 3 to 6% scent. Single scented is 3% fragrance oil;
double scented is 6%. Cottage Country Candle candles are truly triple-scented
at 10%+ fragrance oil or also known as over 1.5 ounce of fragrance per pound of wax.
We accomlish this by using premium waxes. You get the best wax and the best fragrance oils.
Time after time, customers tell us about
their experiences of burning our candles. It always comes down to two
things: they love the deep scent throw of the candle and how long the candles last.

Lid included (mason jars)
Lead free wicks
The small add-ons can sometimes go unnoticed.
Unlike candles that come with a
very thin plastic disposable cover, our jar candles include a metal lid.
This helps keep them dust-free and allows you to neatly stack your
mason jar candles when candles are not in use.
When in use, you may use the lid as a coaster for the candle.
Most reputable North American
candle makers avoid lead wicks and now use lead-free wicks with zinc cores. We go
one step further by using metal free wicks. Our wicks are made of cotton
and paper braided together so there is no zinc, no metals to burn off.

Burn cleaner and longer
Affordably priced
Because soy candles contain no
toxins, they burn cleaner and release no harmful chemical by-products.
Parrafin candles are not soot-free but we do use premium parrafin wax blends which
reduce the amount of soot and maximizes your candle burning experience. The easiest way to minimize soot
buildup: keep the wick
properly trimmed at 1/4" or .8 cm before lighting.
Each one of our 4oz mason jar candles have over 25 hours of burn time.
Our desire at Cottage Country Candle
is to make the most highly scented top quality candles at affordable
prices using old fashioned methods for our customers' enjoyment.
We are
thrilled that we offer soy candles at better than parrafin prices. Ever notice
how most crafters and retailers price soy candles more expensively
than parrafin candle all in the name of being environmentally friendly?
We go one step further! We offer you both parrafin and soy candles at
better pricing than our competitors' parrafin candle prices.
